Winter Games Grant

Starting in 2012, the Winter Games grant will be available to local teams and organization associated with sports involved in the Winter Games held in Beausejour in 2006.  This grant will be awarded yearly.  The intent of the grant is to help promote and advance winter sports in the Beausejour/Brokenhead area.  A special application form is being developed and will be available from our usual outlets as well as this web site.

The sports involved in the 2006 Power Smart Winter Games were Alpine Ski, Badminton, Special Olympic Bowling, Cross Country Skiing, Curling, Hockey, Volleyball, Figure Skating, and Artistic Gymnastics.

Donna Demarco accepted the grant. The grant money will be used to purchase equipment for patients and residents. NEHA has an endowment fund with the foundation and proceeds from the fund as for use by NEHA in the Beausejour area only.

This grant comes from a dedicated fund used to support the on going operations at the Beausejour and area health facilities.

This grant comes from a fund created by local donors to support the activities of the boys’ basketball team at Edward Schreyer School.

Broken Beau Historical Society - 466.41

These funds come from a fund created to support and maintain the Ed Schreyer papers.

Tyndall Playgroup - $613

This organizations was granted $300 by the Youth in Philanthropy students and $313 by the foundation for the purchase of equipment and materials for a playgroup of preschool age children.  Parents of these children in the Tyndall, Garson, and surrounding area will be able to use the playgroup on a drop-in style to network, support each other, and build our community.

Beausejour Hospital TV Fund - $1119.98

This organization was granted $300 by the Youth in Philanthropy students and the remainder by the foundation for the purchase of two televisions for use by the patients at Beausejour Hospital.

Association for Community Living - $2517

To be use to purchase education material called Circles.  These materials will be used to educate their clients on social and sexual boundaries, provide foundation for appropriate social/sexual behaviour, strategies for handling sexual explotation, and protection against communicable diseases.

For the repair and shingling of roof on Brightstone Hall to protect the artifacts stored there.

Bursaries and Scholarships:

Foundation scholarships of $700 each to Brett Hanson Justin Klapprat .

Four Schools Reunion bursary of $300 to Jennifer Popiel.
Science Bursary of $500 to Katrina Selch.  This is the first time this bursary has been awarded.  It goes to a graduate going into a science related field.  Also it is a multi-year bursary, so Katrina will be eligible to receive a bursary in each year of her science education.

Foundation bursaries of $500 each to Mallory Black, Jennifer Popiel, Manpreet Santokh, and Bethany Strecker.

This year $4200 in bursaries and scholarships was awarded.

Information for Grant Seekers

In the month of February each year, the foundation will advertise for local charities to apply to the foundation for grants to support their projects. A due date for the application is set for March of the year. A committee of citizens for our community will study the applications and make recommendations to the board in April. Grants are award at the annual general meeting in May.
