Meet the Board
Ron Jackson - President
Originally from Toronto, Ron received his BA and MSc degrees in Geography at McMaster University. His first career was teaching but went on to work with Natural Resources at Chapleau, Ontario and The Pas, Manitoba. In 1979 he took a position with Municipal Planning in Beausejour.
Supporting his son Ryan’s interests, Ron volunteered with minor hockey, Boy Scouts and Air Cadets. Horse activities with his daughter Kim included the Manitoba Appaloosa Club and the B &B Rodeo. Many years of fundraising for Ducks Unlimited was the result of his love of nature and hunting.
Ron and his wife Val operate “Aspen Acres Boarding Kennels”, and until recently a reindeer and Christmas tree farm. Now retired, Ron enjoys golf, fishing, traveling and teaching a woodcarving course.
Cindee Bialek - Director
My name is Cindee Bialek, mother of three boys of which I am extremely proud. My oldest son is fourteen, an avid sportsman and student. My twins are eight and they keep me young.
I am the Care Team Manager at East Gate Lodge. I started as the HS lunch girl in December, 1982. I worked as a HCA, Registered Nurse, Team Leader and eventually the Care Team Manager.
I take great pride of the facility, the staff and the excellent care our residents receive in the final chapter of their lives. I have enjoyed numerous wonderful experiences and unforgettable real life events during my twenty-four years that have shaped and molded me positively.
Lawrie Goalen, Treasurer
Retired after 32 years as a teacher in Agassiz School Division; resident of Beausejour since 1973; past member of JCs; past member of the board of Brokenhead River Recreation Complex; manager of the BRRC during the first years of operation; presently treasurer for the Beausejour Swinging Squares, Media Co-Chair with Beausejour Safeway Championship Curling 2011, and chair of Beausejour Centennial 2012 Book Committee.
Donna DeMarco, Director
Donna has been with the Brokenhead River Community Foundation since 2001. Working as Vice President Finance and Support Services of Northeastman Health Assocation, she recognizes the benefits of having a Foundation within our community and in particular, the objectives of the Foundation “to support and advance community activities or facilities of a charitable nature, and to support and advance the provision of medical and nursing services”. Donna enjoys spending her leisure time with family and friends, traveling, playing golf, baseball, and curling
Brad Saluk, Director
Born and raised in the RM of Brokenhead, Brad has been self-employed as a local grain producer for the past 18 years. Brad’s community involvement over the years has included volunteering with the Canadian Power Toboggan Championships, Agricore United’s member advisory group, and as an elected member of the Town of Beausejour Council, continues to serve various community organizations.
Brad eagerly volunteers his time with the Brokenhead River Community Foundation as he feels the foundation currently has and will continue to play a vital part in the economic future of our community’s resources.

Chris Pawley
My wife and I decided three years ago to move back to my family roots in the Municipality of Brokenhead after living in Selkirk with our three children. While living there I served on City of Selkirk Council for eleven years and sat on various community committees. I felt there would be no better organization to volunteer my time for than the Brokenhead River Community Foundation. Their overall goal is to make our community a better place to both live and work, now and in the future.
Val Jackson, Administrator
An Easterner by birth, Val attended McMaster University in Hamilton where she met husband Ron. Ryan and Kim are their adult children.
Arriving in Beausejour in 1979 and seeing a need in the community, Val started Togs and Treasures second hand store which she managed for about 10 years. Her love of animals led her to working as a veterinary assistant to Dr. Vivan Jacob as well as caring for dogs and cats at their family-run Aspen Acres Boarding Kennels.
Both gratifying and a challenge, she feels her work for the Foundation is a way of giving back to the community that has given so much to her.
